Spring into Neon!

Today is the first day of SPRING!!!! ….. you wouldn’t know it by the 50-something degrees outside.  But that won’t stop me from wearing flip flops.   And NEON!!!  Yes, I’ve been wearing neon every day this week.  I may be a year late for jumping on this fashion bandwagon but I’ve at least come around to the idea…. not there yet with floral pants.  Give me another year.

Here are some of my favorite neon items for Spring….

gap skimmers

[Gap Skinny Skimmer]

I picked up a few pairs of these the other day and holy moly I may have to go back and get the rest of the colors.  The orange is actually neon, like a highlighter.  So I took a photo of how they really look in person:

neon pants

These are actually my kicks that keep my gym time fun….I do get a lot of crazy looks but at least they go with all of my neon Nike shorts.  And they glow in the dark.

And check out this blog by one of my best friends, Tara, and recently she has posted about fashion with neon…. but, she’s been wearing neon for some time now.  She’s so fashion forward, that girl.  I need her to come to my house and do something with my closet.  Desperately 🙂

And I want this piece of art to go with my neon pants and shoes:

Now, for the granddaddy of them all:  I WANT THIS DESK!!!!

I better save my pocket change for this bad boy:

I could go on and on and on about neon and it’s use in fashion and home furnishings.  But I don’t need to tell you!!  It’s everywhere [thank goodness]!!!  I’m just happy it’s Spring and that I can officially wear it.  A lot.

Happy Spring!

Pay it Forward

It’s a rainy Sunday here in Little Rock….. so what do most people do?  Watch endless amounts of TV, laundry, reorganize closets or cook.  What do I do?  I go to Barnes & Noble to thumb through design books, magazines and people watch.  Nerd alert!!  Well I’m glad I am that nerd because I was reminded a valuable lesson during my outing.

I ordered the biggest iced black tea they have and proceeded to read (actually look at the big pretty pictures) in the towering stack of design books on my table.  Small table, I might add.  I should grab two when available.  Note to self next time.  Another sign of what was to happen.  I downed my entire tea in no time and reached for the next book and in the process, the venti iced black tea goes overboard in slow motion to the floor.  Yes, I’m that graceful girl in the store that will knock over her drink or turn suddenly and take down an entire display of books.  I’m working on that.  As I jump out of my chair to grab all of the ice off of the floor so no one will walk by and slip, I was greeted by a young girl that seemed to have come out of nowhere and she immediately bent down to help me clean up my mess.  I was speechless.  I owe a great deal of gratitude to this kind girl.  She chuckled and said, “I’ve totally been there!  I worked in a restaurant.”  I laughed and said I had too and that it prepares us for handling messes in public!

What I got out of today’s random act of kindness was that no matter what you may think of the world, there are always kind actions that go on every minute of every day.  I will do my part to return the favor to someone else.  I hope to make someone’s day like she did mine 🙂

Have a great week!

Happy Wednesday!!…or today I’m calling it, “PINsday”!!!

Yes, that’s right, I took a trip over to my Pinterest board, Playing with Food, yesterday to give two of the recipes a whirl for dinner options last night.  Trey and his sister were my guinea pigs, bless their hearts.

I chose Philly Steak Stuffed Bell Peppers and Cheeseburger Egg Rolls.  Diet-friendly….uh huh.  Who cares,  it is a test drive down recipe lane so we can make up for it today.

Back to the trial.  I wanted to put these to the test to see if they really do turn out like they look like in the pretty photos you see on Pinterest.  You know, the ones that grab your attention, and your appetite.

RECIPE TRIAL #1:  Philly Steak Stuffed Bell Peppers!!

Here’s the stuffed bell pepper image.  Looks pretty easy, straightforward and yummy:

Stuffed Peppers

And here’s my attempt:

VERDICT:  These were pretty tasty!!  I do think you should probably add more cheese and maybe something like bread crumbs to the inside but maybe that’s just me 🙂

Recipe Trial #2:  Cheeseburger Egg Rolls!!

oh my gosh…oh my gosh……

Cheeseburger Egg Rolls

This recipe caught my attention right away with the crispy [fried] egg roll wrapper and cheesy and meaty stuffing.  It was love at first sight.  If you’re on a diet, please look away and discontinue reading the rest of this blog post.  You’re welcome.

Here’s how this one went:

egg roll step 1

egg roll step 2

Don’t forget your favorite condiments to dip these bad boys in!!  I like ketchup and mustard!!

VERDICT: Let me just tell you how good these are…..mouth.watering.  AND, just by experimentation, there was Philly Cheese Steak leftover and I rolled it up in an egg roll wrapper and O.M.G………. The possibilities are endless!!!

Now next time I will try them baked so that I don’t have to stay an extra 2 hours at the gym asking for forgiveness.

I hope you give these a whirl, too!!  I’ll be testing out more Pinterest items (not just food!!) so stay tuned to my blog!!

Get The Look

Today I bring you a Living Room, designed by Atlanta Based firm The Design Atelier, that I have been drooling over for a while.  I first saw it on COCOCOZY and I’ve loved it ever since.  Their use of a simple color palette, casual but chic furnishings and symmetry….simply heaven!  I love that the walls are white but the paneling gives it architectural interest.

Wine Wednesday

wine wednesday

You’re halfway there!!  It’s Wednesday!!  Wine Wednesday to be exact.  What’s your favorite wine?  Mine is a Malbec.  In particular, this one….called “1” ironically by AntigalAntigal 1 malbec

It pours dark and inky in the glass, with tobacco and leather notes. Dark berry flavors follow.  Simply divine.  I’ve even managed to get my best friend addicted!  And she’s a wine guru!

Remember about five years ago when Pinot Noir was the biggest trend in wines?  Don’t get me wrong, I still love La Crema Pinot but I have a fixation on Malbecs right now.  Malbecs have a dense and dark full-bodied richness that few other grapes besides maybe Cabernet Sauvignon or warm-climate Syrah can mimic.   Although the grape originated in France, it flourishes in Argentina where it just surges.  Their climate allows for the flavors to be polished, structured, and concentrated.   Typical characteristic notes are blackberry, plum, leather, and pepper.  A great partner to a medium rare steak!

In addition to my favorite Malbec, here are a couple of others I recommend that you try:

catena zapata

Catena Zapata

pascual toso malbec

Pascual Toso Alta Reserve

Tomero malbec

Do you have any other Malbec recommendations for me to try?!
